Australia vs South Africa: The top five test battles

Mitchell Starc South Africa

South Africa's abilities in the lower order - when batting and bowling - will be their focus ahead of the second Test against Australia, which starts on Friday in Port Elizabeth.

As for TV the match will shown live on Sony Ten 1, Sony Ten 1 HD and Sony Ten 3, Sony Ten 3 HD, in both English and Hindi.

The breakthrough ended Markram's 147-run partnership with de Kock for the sixth wicket and set up the late surge from Starc.

Tailender Morne Morkel held off for 27 deliveries, without scoring, to force play into the final day. Mitchell Starc took three wickets in five balls to have South Africa nine down.

Skipper Steve Smith has told Fox Sports it was a great team effort.

Former South captain Graeme Smith questioned whether the light had changed sufficiently from the start of Starc's devastating over to make such a radical decision - and suggested the umpires had been influenced by the collapse of wickets.

At least the Proteas have shown that they are now ready to compete with Australia and the fact that this is a four Test series means that they will have plenty of opportunity to get back into the series.

Amla who walked in at No. 3 looked good but his stay at the crease was cut short by his nemesis Josh Hazlewood. He still took 22 wickets in four Ashes Tests.

De Villiers' unbeaten 71 had comprised nearly half South Africa's total of 162.

The game has been marred, however, by a verbal altercation between De Kock and David Warner outside the dressing rooms at tea on day four, with CCTV footage showing Warner being restrained by his team-mates.

Starc does have a less striking moustache that Agoram could imitate, but du Plessis knows that South Africa would be better served by mirroring the fast bowler's on-field exploits. Five runs were added by the home side before Quinton de Kock (83, 149b, 11×4) was hit on the back pad and trapped leg before by Josh Hazlewood (3/61) as he tried to launch the ball over the boundary.

That came when De Bruyn (36) nicked one from Hazlewood behind to Paine.

Quinton de Kock congratulations Aiden Markram of the Proteas. South Africa went on to win the second Test by 231 runs. There was spin there for him, but fortune was not on his side, with South Africa largely playing him well out of the rough. The duo attacked the bad balls and defended the good ones and slowly and steadily kept the scorecard ticking.

Apart from Starc, one of the other major reasons why Australia were able to get ahead in the Test match was the batting of Mitchell Marsh.

"Just reminding him of what he had just done, trying to get him off his game, the same as they do to us".

That hope was extinguished when Markram was caught behind by wicketkeeper Tim Paine, standing up to the medium-paced Mitchell Marsh.

Having had the temerity not to be dismissed by that delivery‚ Markram was immediately punished by a brutish ball that smashed into his front elbow‚ which promptly swelled up lumpily and looked as if an octopus had taken rude residence under the skin of his forearm.

"I think it's always a chance when you're up to the stumps".

Marsh, with some aggressive support from Mitchell Starc, was mainly responsible for Australia's last three wickets adding 100 runs.

Currently, they are perhaps too accepting of the Australia behaviour, and maybe the de Kock incident will fire them up. Against the spin of Keshav Maharaj, realising the nature of the pitch, he opted to play off the back-foot, a tactic that made Maharaj push the ball quicker through the air, presenting Marsh a few freebies that he was able to pick off easily through the cut or the back foot drive.

With only one wicket to fall and a deadly Starc waiting, only a miracle can save South Africa from going down 1-0 in the four-match series on the last day.

Three minutes after the break Andy King scored his first goal since joining on loan from Leicester City at another corner.
