US lawmakers formally ask Facebook CEO to testify on user data

Facebook’s value plunged $58b

Facebook has 44 million users in the United Kingdom, putting the country in top 10 in the world for the number of Facebook users, according to data from Statista published by Deutsche Welle.

Zuckerberg also emphasized steps the company has already taken, including reducing access outside apps had to user data in 2014.

Zuckerberg previously told CNN when asked if he'd be willing to testify: 'The short answer is I'm happy to if it's the right thing to do'.

Debra Williamson, a market analyst, said that it was too early to say whether this distrust would cause any significant interruption to Facebook's user count, however.

Despite acknowledging that Facebook did indeed fail to protect its users' information on at least one occasion - with more incidents expected to be discovered - the advert does not make reference to whether the company should continue to possess data.

I've just looked at the data files I requested from Facebook and they had every single phone number in my contacts. What's worse, he said, it was hard to avoid extracting private data.

Facebook made $40 billion in advertising revenue last year, and that's expected to rise 22 per cent this year to $49 billion, according to research firm eMarketer.

"Facebook's advertising system depends on user data, and it has used that data to develop targeted advertising capabilities that are better than any other company can offer".

Federal election records show that the Trump campaign paid Cambridge Analytica roughly $6 million.

Local immigrants concerned as new spending bill does nothing about DACA
Before Trump made the bill law, a senior Democratic aide on Capitol Hill told the Guardian: "One of two things will happen. But the President soured on the $1.6 billion earmarked for his contentious border wall, saying that it's not enough.

Facebook's response, however, is limited to a narrow range of technical changes that will further limit the data apps can collect and lead to audits of apps that exhibit troubling behavior.

Apps - everything from dumb personality quizzes to games (remember "FarmVille?") - have been able to harvest user information since 2007, when Facebook opened its service to outside developers.

In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica outcry, Facebook is once again cracking down - but exclusively on apps.

To recap: this week's tech headlines have been all about Facebook and the crisis for the social network.

THEY say you can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs. That would let people decide whether or not to keep them.

The Information Commissioner's Office was granted a warrant by a High Court judge to search the premises as part of its larger probe into the use of personal data and analytics by political campaigns, parties, social media companies and other commercial actors.

"Some of the executives I shared the presentation with are still at the company today".

But he added: "I think it was well understood both internally and externally that there was risk with the way Facebook was handling data".
