US to take another look at Pacific trade pact that Trump quashed

Lawmakers say Trump exploring rejoining Pacific trade talks

President Trump directed trade officials Thursday to look into rejoining negotiations for a major trade deal with eleven Pacific Rim countries.

In a meeting with farm-state lawmakers and governors this morning, Trump revealed that he had directed his new economic adviser Larry Kudlow, and top trade negotiator Robert Lighthizer, to see if the 11 trade partners we jilted previous year would be interested in getting back together.

President Trump, who held the White House meeting aimed at easing the high anxiety of Midwest lawmakers as a result of the China trade dispute, has previously not ruled out rejoining the TPP.

Senator Deb Fischer, a Republican from the corn-growing state of Nebraska, said in a statement Thursday she was "encouraged" by Trump's move "to reengage with TPP nations". Trump's presidency, which began less than a year later, complicated that.

He called Trump's change of mind on the Pacific trade deal "good news". Mr. Trump, who has demanded that any such deal benefit the United States, is unlikely to rejoin the Trans-Pacific Partnership without further concessions for what he has criticized as a awful agreement. "Just a continuing rape of our country".

The request follows Trump starting a trade war with China that could impact American exports.

Trump has often said he prefers bilateral trade deals instead of multinational pacts, believing the USA does not fare well in bigger trade deals.

PlayStation 5 likely won't arrive until 2020
So even if a studio did have its hands on a devkit, not everyone at a studio might know about it. It's been almost five years since the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launched.

But Trump is struggling to get support from other countries for his recent threat to impose import tariffs on China and the USA farm lobby is arguing that retaliation by China would hit American agricultural exports. There was a conflation that went on where it was said this is a trade deal with China.

But a spokesman for China's commerce ministry said the United States is not showing any sincerity and that China will not hesitate to fight back if the US escalates trade tensions.

Trump contended that "China has consistently treated the American farmer very poorly", noting that Beijing had until last year blocked USA beef sales for 14 years. He says that's shifting work to competitors outside the U.S.

Trump and his national security team will have "a number of meetings" on a potential response to a chemical weapons attack in Syria, the president said earlier Thursday.

Richard Trumka, head of the AFL-CIO, the largest federation of USA trade unions, said on Twitter that the TPP would have failed America's workers and "should remain dead".

Although many approached his remarks with skepticism. rejoining TPP would mark a reversal on the tenants that Trump ran under which accounted for some of the working class appeal for votes stating that the deals ripped of the USA and hurt American workers and manufacturing.

Still, you couldn't fairly say that Trump didn't keep any of his populist campaign promises - or at least, you couldn't say that until today.
