Google reportedly allows outside app developers to read people's Gmails

Software Developers are Scanning the Inboxes of Gmail Users

As The Wall Street Journal reports, "hundreds of outside software developers scan the inboxes of millions of Gmail users" who have given permission for these apps to connect in return for things like price-comparison services and travel alerts.

For example, the company Return Path uses computers to scan about 100 million emails a day from Gmail, Microsoft or Yahoo! email inboxes of those who have signed up for a free app through its partner network.

A new report concerning Gmail has millions of users freaked out about who (or what) is reading their emails.

These IT employees are permitted to use systems or even other workers to read user emails.

When Gmail first launched back in 2004, people were concerned about it because Google was scanning incoming messages in order to be able to present users with relevant, personalized adverts based on the email content. Google pointed us to Security Checkup, which lets you revoke access from any third-party apps you've given access to, and more recently started flagging apps that ask for a large amount of data.

Back then, Portugal lost to France and eventually finished fourth after losing to Germany in the consolation game. He also joined Pele, Miroslav Klose and Uwe Seeler as the only players to score in four World Cups .

To recall, Google back in 2017, said its computers will soon stop reading the emails of its Gmail users to personalise their ads.

The companies that had spokespeople quoted in the article claim that all their employees must adhere to strict guidelines when checking user data, and while there are no signs of misuse amongst other developers, the potential is certainly there. Companies may reveal additional details about how data is processed but most users don't read privacy policies, terms of service, and other legal documents prior to allowing access to their data or installing applications.

Mikael Berner, the CEO of Edison Software, a Gmail developer that offers a mobile app for organising email, told The Journal that its employees had read emails from hundreds of Gmail users as part of an effort to build a new feature.

As per the report, Return Path Inc.is one of the said companies which Google allowed. These apps only have basic profile information - like your name and email address - so that you don't have to sign up for yet another website account that you have keep track of.

The app companies say that their actions are covered by their user agreements.
