Gowdy: Trump Advisers Should Weigh Quitting If He Doesn't Heed Russia Intel

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin recently met

House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) on Sunday called on top intelligence officers to step down if President Donald Trump refuses to accept their assessment that the Russian government is interfering in USA elections. So, I would simply say that what I saw in Helsinki at a moment that the president could have challenged President Putin about the reality that his 17 intelligence agencies all unanimously agreed that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 elections, that they are in the midst of doing that as we speak in these elections, 108 days away.

A meeting of United States and Russian presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin took place in the Finnish capital Helsinki on July 16.

Adam Schiff had this to say when asked by George Stephanopoulos if he believes Trump is compromised by Putin: "Well, I certainly think he is acting like someone who is compromised and it very well may be that he is compromised, or that he believes that he is compromised, that the Russians have information on him".

"For whatever reason, this president acts like he's compromised", Schiff told ABC's This Week. "There is simply no other way to explain why he would side with this Kremlin former KGB officer rather than his own intelligence agencies".

Mr Trump accused the news media of trying to provoke a confrontation with Moscow that could lead to war, although concerns about the meeting have been raised by a broad cross-section of Republicans and Democrats.

"I think it's an important thing that we engage him". "I don't understand the apparent blindness (Trump) has to Putin's hostile acts".

President Donald Trump has said he wants another meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin to start implementing ideas they discussed in Helsinki.

The findings indicate that while Trump was judged critically for his summit performance, the event has not yet proved to be a significant turning point in his presidency.

Trump strikes back at critics of Helsinki summit with Putin
But some of Trump's closest advisers, including Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, held a different view, according to Bloomberg .

In the same interview on Thursday, Coats publicly broke with Trump over his decision to meet privately with Putin in Helsinki, Finland, saying, "if he had asked me how that ought to be conducted, I would have suggested a different way".

"You need to work with Congress to come up with new sanctions because Putin's not getting the message", Graham said on CBS' "Face the Nation".

For his part, Barletta said in a statement released by his campaign that he, too, agrees with US intelligence agencies, and that he will "continue to do everything I can" to prevent Russian Federation from doing so again. If you want to rejoin the world order and observe worldwide law and stop invading sovereign nations like Ukraine, then we can have a pathway forward.

Mr. Trump said following the summit that he had meant to say "wouldn't" instead of "would" during a press conference with Putin in which he cast doubt on the intelligence community's assessment of Russian interference.

Putin acknowledged in Helsinki that he had wanted Trump to win the 2016 election, but again denied any interference had taken place - a denial that Trump seemed to accept, over unanimous USA intelligence findings to the contrary.

President Donald Trump reportedly fawned over Russian President Vladimir Putin to his aides after they met for a high stakes summit in Helsinki last week. It could be some other power, not just Russian Federation. He said that because of Trump's lack of political background, there was at times a clash between Trump's approach to Putin and the more hardline approach other politicians might have delivered in his position.

So there's ample reason for journalists to try to ask again: "Is Russia still targeting the USA?"

"(Putin) is not interested in better relations with the United States", Republican Sen.
