Rahul Gandhi reviews no-confidence motion debate, attacks PM Modi again

Jay Panda's resignation accepted: Lok Sabha Speaker

Addressing the Lok Sabha during his speech in the debate on the no-confidence motion against the NDA government, Gandhi said the French president had clearly conveyed to him that there was no problem in sharing details relating to the Rafale deal worth Rs 58,000 crore.

However, a statement issued by the French government after Congress president Rahul Gandhi raised the Indo-French Rafale jet deal during the no-confidence motion in Parliament, did not specifically mention whether the classified information included details of the pricing. And the numbers in the end - 325 Noes and 126 Ayes - offered the NDA a resounding win.

"A phone call would get loans for their cronies and the nation suffered", Modi said, replying to the debate on the no confidence motion in the Lok Sabha. "Rahul Gandhi did create quake", said Marya Shakil, political editor of CNN-News18 news channel, adding that it was now over to Modi to come up with a reply. "But I love you and respect you because I am the Congress", he said. "You can abuse me, you can call me pappu (loser), but I don't have a speck of hatred against you", Mr Gandhi said before hugging a startled Mr Modi. During an election rally in Agra on November 21, 2013, Modi, NDA's prime ministerial candidate at that time, had promised one crore jobs.

The no-confidence motion proceedings in Lok Sabha, which concluded late Friday evening, was not bereft of dramatic scenes.

Criticising the government for demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST), Gandhi said that the government policies have impacted several businesses. He made the unusual gesture of going up to the Prime Minister, which caught him and the government totally unawares.

Modi, whose BJP is setting up next year's vote as a presidential-style contest between the experienced prime minister and an untested challenger, is himself known for his bear hugs, embracing leaders such as U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump says U.S. must find ways to cooperate with Russia
Putin also said Washington knows the Kremlin's position on the Iran nuclear deal, from which Trump withdrew a year ago . He said Trump's refusal to condemn Russian interference in the 2016 election makes the US "look like a pushover".

Rahul raked up the Doklam standoff in Parliament today during the no-confidence motion, saying, " The Indian Army stood its grind, but Prime Minister Modi buckled under pressure from China".

Taking on the government over women safety, Rahul said that never have the women in the country felt this unsafe. "India will be watching us closely", Modi said ahead of the no trust vote in the House. "Rahul Creates Flutter, Modi Has Last Word", it said, pointing out the various parties that backed the BJP and those that did not. "Any instance of violence brings shame to the nation".

"I will once again urge the state governments to punish those who indulge in violence", PM Modi said in an apparent reference to the cases of mob lynching and assured that his government stood with the Muslim women in their quest for justice.

Opposition leaders, however, hope to reap political gains ahead of national elections early next year.

The truth is that Modi is not a "chowkidar" but a "bhagidaar" in the wrong-doings, the Congress chief said. A total of 451 MPs were present and voted in the House and the majority mark required in a House with an effective strength of 534 MPs came down to 226.
