INTERNATIONAL - Afghan President visits violence-hit Ghazni city

Afghan volunteers carry a body on a stretcher to a hospital Wednesday after a suicide attack in Kabul

The attack was blamed on the ISIS terror group.

Kabul's police spokesman, Hashmat Stanekzi, said there were no immediate reports of casualties.

The head of the United Nations children's agency says children continue to be hardest hit in the growing violence across Afghanistan and is calling the latest attack on a Shiite class in Kabul which killed or critically wounded dozens of children "deplorable".

The Dasht-e-Barchi area is populated by members of Afghanistan's minority ethnic Hazaras - a Shiite community that has in the past been targeted by similar large-scale attacks such as the Wednesday bombing, which also wounded 56 people, according to Health Ministry spokesman Wahid Majroh.

Around a dozen ambulances rushed to the Mawoud education centre in the western part of the city, where students and relatives described pulling bloodied victims from the rubble of a classroom that had been crowded with teenagers preparing to go to university.

A reporter saw Taliban forces in at least one village on the outskirts of the city, and residents said they had been told by security forces that the militants remained uncomfortably close. The Taliban fighters have killed more than 200 security personnel in Afghanistan in the last week.

There were no injuries and no one claimed responsibility for firing the rockets.

Trump cancels military parade, says he will head to Paris
It is not clear if any of this cost would go toward reimbursing the Washington , D.C., city government's cleanup or road fix . Trump said the drills were provocative and that dumping them would save the United States "a tremendous amount of money".

"We received around a hundred dead bodies - most of which were security forces and police but also there were some civilians among them", said Abdul Basir Ramaki, the head of Ghazni provincial hospital.

Provincial police spokesman Zia Durrani says the policemen discovered the vehicle packed with explosives late on Wednesday.

"What's crystal clear is that almost four years after the Afghan security forces took over the war efforts, they're still woefully unprepared for the task-despite very real improvements in capacities in recent years". Dilawar Aymaq, a parliamentarian from Baghlan, confirmed the attack. It also comes as US and Afghan forces intensify ground and air offensives against the Islamic State, and the Taliban step up their turf war with the group.

Afghanistan is littered with unexploded ordnance left by decades of war. Afghan forces repelled the initial assault and in recent days have struggled to flush the insurgents out of residential areas where they are holed up.

With Taliban fighters still positioned on the outskirts of the city, the Afghan president on August 17 arrived by helicopter rather than traveling the 120 kilometers southwest from Kabul on Afghanistan's main "ring road" highway. "Today, even in Kabul, people may be starting to fear a sudden attack by the Taliban against the city".

He says the gunbattle lasted several hours during which the Taliban used artillery and heavy guns.

"Everyday we are witnessing deadly attacks in Kabul and other major cities".
