Putrajaya must condemn Jamal Khashoggi's murder, says rights NGO

Saudi Arabia government pledges ‘greater action’ if US retaliates for Khashoggi disappearance

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he had sent Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Saudi Arabia and raised the possibility that "rogue killers" could be behind the disappearance of Khashoggi, who vanished after entering the Saudi consulate in Turkey almost two weeks ago.

Mr Khashoggi, a Saudi national and U.S. resident who became increasingly critical of powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has not been seen since he walked into the kingdom's Istanbul consulate to sort out marriage paperwork on Oct 2. Mr Trump says "rogue killers" could be responsible for his disappearance because the Saudi ruler King Salman has denied knowing what happened.

Turkish forensics team have conducted a sweep of the Saudi consulate in Istanbul trying to find any evidence into the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, whom Ankara believes was murdered at the diplomatic site. "He didn't really know, maybe - I don't want to get into his mind but it sounded to me - maybe these could have been rogue killers".

Mr Khashoggi's fate has troubled Washington and Saudi Arabia's other traditional Western allies.

But privately, others are now questioning whether the 33-year-old Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, the man once hailed as a visionary saviour of Saudi Arabia, has gone too far.

Saudi Arabia was preparing last night to admit that the journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed accidentally in its custody, according to sources close to a joint inquiry with Turkey. Meanwhile, Trump dispatched the U.S. secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, to Riyadh to meet King Samlan. He was an outspoken critic of the Saudi regime, and was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Saudi Arabia unapologetically flogs, imprisons - and occasionally, crucifies - people for committing the crime of "homosexual intercourse". "We're going to try getting to the bottom of it very soon, but his was a flat denial".

Saudi Arabia is considering an admission that journalist Jamal Khashoggi died during an interrogation that went wrong, U.S. media reported on Monday (Oct 15).

Saudi government reportedly grappling with Khashoggi explanation to save face
Khashoggi has not been seen since entering the consulate to obtain documents for his forthcoming marriage. Khashoggi, I can not support President Trump's proposed arms sale", Durbin said.

The Saudi government could not immediately be reached for comment on the CNN report. But then, if they cared about such realities, the US would have cut off support to the Saudi war in Yemen years ago.

He had been critical of Prince Mohammed, who has cracked down on dissent with arrests.

The Saudi riyal, rebounded early after falling to its lowest in two years over fears that foreign investment could shrink. He asked that "the global community of nations will respect and acknowledge what Saudi Arabia has done".

The Saudi stock market had tumbled 7.2 percent over the previous two trading days but rebounded 2 percent on Monday.

Business barons including British billionaire Richard Branson and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, as well as media powerhouses Bloomberg and CNN, have pulled out of the Future Investment Initiative (FII).

Khashoggi moved to Washington after Crown Prince Mohammed began a kingdomwide anti-corruption crackdown, including efforts to silence dissidents.

Trump previously warned of "severe punishment" for the kingdom if it was found to be involved in Khashoggi's disappearance, which has spooked investors in Saudi Arabia and SoftBank, a Japanese firm that manages tens of billions of dollars for the kingdom.
