Paul Manafort Breached Plea Deal by Lying to Mueller’s Team, Prosecutors Say

Mueller accuses Manafort of breaking plea agreement by lying

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort lied repeatedly to the Federal Bureau of Investigation after making a plea agreement to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller, prosecutors charged Monday.

Mueller's team did not spell out what Manafort lied about.

Mueller and Manafort had come to the plea agreement in October, just before the case against the former Trump campaign chairman in D.C. was about to go to trial.

Manafort was convicted on 8 counts in September in the Eastern District of Virginia for failure to register as a foreign agent in light of his political connection to former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, alongside charges of tax-evasion, conspiracy and lying to federal agents.

In the plea deal, Manafort plead guilty to conspiracy against the US and obstruction of justice, related to allegations of witness tampering.

Hamidou Diallo of Oklahoma City Thunder carted off with leg injury
After further evaluation Thursday, the team reported Diallo has a left ankle sprain and will be re-evaluated in 7-10 days. On the play in which he was injured, Diallo went up for a rebound and got tied up with Warriors forward Jonas Jerebko .

As Mueller's probe continues to come up short on expectations proving the endlessly hyped accusation of collusion, investigators have been forced to double-down on those who have been implicated, even if their ability to connect Trump with Russian Federation ends up looking like a game of "several degrees of separation".

Mueller's joint status report noted that both sides called for a sentencing date to be set without delay. His attorneys say in the same filing that he believes he "provided truthful information".

The move signals a return to the acrimonious relationship Manafort has had with the special counsel's office since his indictment a year ago. The president's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, entered into a plea deal with Mueller, while Trump's longtime personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, has been providing information to Mueller's team and federal prosecutors in NY, among others, a person familiar with the matter has said. That included his work on the Trump campaign as well as his Ukrainian political work, which remains under investigation by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of NY. Manafort remains jailed and is expected to face at least 10 years in prison.

As part of his plea agreement, Manafort pledged to "co-operate fully, truthfully, completely, and forthrightly" with the government "in any and all matters" prosecutors deemed necessary.

He attended a meeting at Trump Tower in June 2016 with a group of Russians offering damaging information on Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, who lost to Mr Trump in an upset in the presidential vote that November. Prosecutors said Gates, who also pleaded guilty, is cooperating in "several ongoing investigations".
