UK Parliament Seizes Facebook’s Internal Documents

Fake news:UK seizes confidential Facebook documents

The Guardian reports that the UK Parliament has seized a cache of documents "alleged to contain significant revelations about Facebook decisions on data and privacy controls that led to the Cambridge Analytica scandal".

A cohort of global lawmakers is trying to turn up the pressure on Facebook, grilling one of its executives and making a show of founder Mark Zuckerberg's refusal to explain to them why his company failed to protect users' data privacy. These documents is claimed to include documents of confidential statements in emails of top Facebook executives and correspondence with Zuckerberg.

"The committee used a parliamentary order to obtain documents that could be highly relevant to the inquiry", a spokesperson for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) select committee told NBC News. In another unusual move, Parliament sent an officer to the founder's hotel with a warning to comply with the order or face possible fines or imprisonment, The Guardian reported.

Collins' seizure, however, did not take place against Facebook itself; rather, the documents have been seized from U.S. software development company Six4Three after having been obtained as part of the discovery process in a lawsuit against Facebook. Members of the parliament used their legal powers to confiscate those documents from the founder of a defunct app developer Six4Three which is trying to sue Facebook.

"It makes it look like he's got something to hide and he's anxious that we may have information and questions we could put to him that would put him in a hard position", Collins said.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri: We've had a mental problem
Manchester City are seemingly streaking off in pursuit of more records, with Liverpool remorselessly gegenpressing in pursuit. The Spurs star told BT Sport: "We knew it was going to be a hard game and we knew we had to start strongly".

But do not underestimate the MP's determination to show a global social media giant that it is not above local laws.

"We have very serious questions for Facebook".

The parliament's digital committee sought the documents ahead of an global hearing it's hosting on Tuesday to look into disinformation and "fake news". "We have no further comment". "And it has not answered our questions about who knew what, when with regards to the Cambridge Analytica scandal", Collins said.

Allan was responding to Canadian lawmaker Charlie Angus, who said the social media giant has "lost the trust of the global community to self-police", and that governments have to start looking at ways to hold the company accountable.
