Mexico border situation a 'growing crisis': Donald Trump

Trump has made building a wall- like these prototypes seen from Tijuana

In a speech that will neither get the government running again nor change anyone's mind about anything, U.S. President Donald Trump will address the nation tonight in an attempt to make a prime-time case for his wall along the southern border-an effort most Americans have already said they don't support.

Mr Trump did not use his televised speech to declare a national emergency. Such a move would likely be met with a court challenge. Democrats, who now control the House of Representatives, have consistently opposed it, calling it an expensive, inefficient and an immoral way of trying to resolve immigration issues.

Trump used to say that Mexico will pay for the wall, but since that is impossible, he has endorsed the freakish claim that the wall will pay for itself.

But Trump rejects that legislation because it doesn't have funding for his border wall.

"As part of an overall approach to border security, law enforcement professionals have requested $US5.7 billion for a physical barrier", he said. Hundreds of thousands of federal workers are going without pay, and government disruptions are hitting home with everyday Americans.

She said the Democrats also want a secure border, but Mr Trump's wall is not the solution, as she offered options including building infrastructure and installing new technology. Some say Trump's hardline policies are slowing processing for migrants, creating an overwhelming bottleneck at the border.

The number of illegal border crossings is down from 1.6 million in 2000 to fewer than 400,000 a year ago. There were almost 400,000 apprehensions at the border in the 2018 fiscal year, well down from the early 2000s when arrests regularly topped one million annually.

Amid his talk of crisis, Mr Trump is considering declaring the border situation a national emergency, which could get him out of an impasse by enabling him to bypass Congress' mandate to approve federal spending and to build the wall without its approval. "The fact is the Congress should do its job and come to the table", Pence told CBS News. At the same time, the number of arrests of people crossing illegally from Mexico has been been falling since the early 2000s. So while there may be a humanitarian crisis driving more vulnerable people to seek asylum in the United States, there is no security crisis.

They also claim that the two spheres are likely to have come together very shortly after the formation of the Solar System. A NASA spacecraft travelling through space sent back pictures of the most distant object explored by mankind on Wednesday.

US President Donald Trump is set to argue that an immigration "crisis" requires his long-promised wall along the Mexican border.

It will be Trump's first live address to the nation.

The networks said on Tuesday morning that they will carry the Democrats' response. Joe Manchin told CNN.

"We don't think that's the American way", Hoyer told reporters on Tuesday.

Mr Trump will follow up with a rare trip to the Mexico border itself on Thursday.

The partial government shutdown, which began on 22 December, has affected 25% of the government. The shutdown, which has left some 800,000 government workers furloughed or working without pay, is also affecting national parks, airline security screening, housing and food aid, and economic data. "So at 9pm Tuesday, tune into CBS to See B.S". Ahead of Tuesday night's speech, Trump aides went so far as to claim that 4000 suspected terrorists had been apprehended at the Southern border, forcing even he pro-administration Fox News to fact-check and say most were apprehended at airports.

Trump made his promise for a wall a signature issue in his 2016 White House run. Two Guatemalan children have died in border custody, while images of border patrol officers firing tear gas at migrants have raised the ire of critics.
