Trump’s weekend: new Russian Federation questions, shutdown irritants

Russia's President Vladimir Putin greets U.S. President Donald Trump as First lady Melania Trump stands nearby during a meeting in Helsinki Finland

US intelligence agencies have said Moscow tried to tip the election to Trump.

"I mean it's so ridiculous", he added, before taking a swipe at Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, who has been in the news lately for an ugly divorce after his sexts with former "Extra" and Fox News host Lauren Sanchez surfaced.

Coons said, "That was a concerning, even alarming report".

Trump also took the opportunity during the 25-minute interview to touch on several other topics including the government shutdown, the US-Mexico border, and a potential race against former Vice President Joe Biden. But The Times later issued a correction that it had identified the wrong oligarch and that Manafort instead had asked the information be sent to other oligarchs.

"Counterintelligence investigators had to consider whether the president's own actions constituted a possible threat to national security", the New York Times report said.

Democrats are using a part of the law that gives Congress a 30-day window to review and attempt to block sanctions decisions.

"The liberal media has wasted two years trying to manufacture a fake collusion scandal instead of reporting the fact that unlike President Obama, who let Russian Federation and other foreign adversaries push America around, President Trump has actually been tough on Russian Federation".

Trump tweeted early Saturday that the report showed that the FBI leadership "opened up an investigation on me, for no reason & with no proof" after he had fired Comey.

Worst case scenario, if a McCarthy hiring didn't pan out, at least, for once, they gave the fan base someone they wanted. The coach seems to be taking the approach of sitting out for a season and letting the ideal job to fall into his lap.

On Friday, the New York Times published a story about an FBI probe into Trump's behavior following his firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

Senator Mark Warner, the ranking Democrat on the powerful Senate Intelligence Committee, told CNN on Sunday that whether Trump was a witting or unwitting agent of Russian Federation is "the defining question" of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. The probe is not just about Russian election interference, or about Trump's obstruction of the probe - it is about the secret relationship between Trump and Russia that appears to be causing both these things to happen. The Times says it's unclear whether Mueller is still pursuing the counterintelligence angle.

"It's our responsibility to try to find out, in the best interest of the country, what really has gone on with Putin and Trump", Engel told NPR's Sarah McCammon Sunday on All Things Considered.

President Donald Trump has taken drastic measures to hide his private conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a report in the Washington Post on Saturday.

Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has defended the decision, saying the companies are undergoing a major restructuring to "sever Deripaska's control and significantly diminish his ownership".

Warner predicted some Republicans in the GOP-controlled Senate would join Democrats in voting to override the removal of these sanctions.

Graham, for his part, told The Hill on Sunday, "I, for one, don't trust what I read in the New York Times", but also that he plans to ask current Federal Bureau of Investigation director Christopher Wray to confirm the details of the reporting.
